While using your AirPods, you may notice that people can’t hear you whenever you’re on a call with your AirPods.

Depending on your environment, this often requires you to switch to the device mic or loudspeaker, which might only sometimes be favorable.

While you may want to replace the AirPods immediately, I’ll advise you to find out why people can’t hear you on your AirPods and also fix the problem.

Even so, this problem is often caused by a blocked microphone or a simple phone configuration that must be implemented.

To this rescue, I’ll tell you possible reasons why people can’t hear you with your AirPods connected and possible ways to fix the trouble.

Why can I hear out of my AirPods but no one can hear me?

If a caller can’t hear you or your voice sounds muffled whenever you’re connected to your Airpods, you should know there’s a problem with your Airpods mic.

Other issues that contribute to this include:

  1. Dirty or broken AirPods microphone. If the AirPods microphone is clogged with green matter or has been broken due to physical damage.
  2. Airpods software glitch. This often arises when the AirPods need to be reset because of too many device connections.
  3. Device settings. Sometimes, you may switch between both ears and disable automatic ear detection. This can affect the functionality of the AirPods.
  4. Outdated Operating System. If you’re using a new generation Airpods on an outdated OS, the function will be limited until you update your device.
  5. Bluetooth Interference. When your device is connected to two audio devices at a time.

These are a few reasons the recipient can’t hear you on your AirPods. Now, let’s see how to fix this issue.

Why Can’t Callers Hear me on my AirPods – FIXED

Implementing one or all of the below fixes will get callers to hear you clearer on your AirPods.

1. Give your Airpods Permission to Call

While most Airpods gain this permission by default, an option disallows your Airpods to be used for calls.

What it does is that you can only use your AirPods for music, playing voice notes, and anything audio-related but not for calls.

You should check if the settings haven’t been enabled by mistake.

  • Go to Bluetooth
  • Tap on the “i” or settings icon next to your AirPods.
  • Enable the “Call” and “Audio” option

That’s all.

2. Set Your Airpods as the Primary microphone

If your device mic is faulty and you’re making use of your Airpods mic to override it, you should check if your AirPods are set to be your primary microphone.

This can be done by tapping a Bluetooth icon on the call interface. You can use this button to switch between them.

3. Clean your AirPods Microphone

As discussed in our previous article, the microphone is usually located at the stem of the AirPods. You should clean the microphone if you notice callers are having difficulty hearing you.

This can be achieved by dipping a clean swab into the methylated spirit and then wiping it carefully over the iron terminal to get rid of green matter or grimes that has been accumulated.

Repeat the process over any open port on the AirPods, but do that gently to avoid damaging the speaker.

4. Disable Low Power Mode

The function of the low power mode is to limit certain features on your device to sustain your battery life, and your AirPods Microphone could be one of them.

Try turning off low power mode and see if your voice becomes audible when making calls with your AirPods.

5. Switch Microphones to the Left or Right Ear

There’s an option on iPhone that allows you to select which microphone to use for audio and calls. This will help you choose a better mic instead of automatically selecting one for you.

This can be achieved by opening settings > Bluetooth > tap the “i” next to your AirPods name > Select Microphone > select the right or left AirPods as your primary microphone.

That’s all.

6. Disconnect other Audio Devices.

I’ve seen scenarios where my device was able to connect to my AirPods and my speaker at the same time. This clash will pause audio input or output or select a stronger connection.

In this case, you may need to disconnect from the available Bluetooth devices, turn off those devices, or connect to only one device.

7. Restart your Device

Restarting your device may come in handy in resolving issues like this.

Once the reboot process is complete, try making calls once again and see if the problem is resolved.

8. Forget your AirPods Connection

Forgetting your AirPods connection simply means to unpair your AirPods from your device. This can be done from the list of Bluetooth connections.

Tap on the particular Airpods connection and select “Unpair” or “Forget” to delete the device.

You can now reconnect the AirPods and see if the issue has been resolved.

9. Reset your AirPods

If the above technique doesn’t work, you’ll need to reset your AirPods to reset the system.

Depending on the Airpods manufacturer, the reset action method might differ from another. Some use tap prompts while others integrate a button at the back of the casing to reset the Airpods.

Regardless, here’s how to reset your Apple AirPods:

  • Forget and put the AirPods into the casing with the lid closed
  • Open the lid after some seconds
  • Tap and hold the button at the back of the AirPods case until it flashes Amber or White.
  • Reconnect your AirPods to your device.

This should fix the problem and callers should start hearing your voice while on a call with your AirPods.

10. Reset Network Settings

Resetting your network setting is another way to clear data related to your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections.

We have got an article on how you can reset your network settings, do well to check it out.

11. Update Device OS

It’s no news that running on an outdated mobile device may limit its functionality and also put your security at risk.

If your phone is outdated then consider checking for updates and installing them. Let me believe we all know how to check for software updates on our respective devices.

12. Change Airpods

If the problem still persists, then you should check another Airpods. If callers can hear you well on with the new Airpods then it’s from your former Airpods. You can consider changing it for a better one.

That’s all.
