This method can be used by both Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10, and 11 users but it’s advisable to upgrade to at least Windows version 8.

Additionally, there are many ways to get to the Bluetooth setting on your HP laptop but I’ll follow the simple way.

  1. Remove the Airpods from the case or raise the charging lid to put it in a pairing mode (differs from Airpods versions)
  2. Click on the Start Windows icon and select settings from the options
  3. Select “Devices” under the “Find a setting” section
  4. Under “Bluetooth and other devices”, Click on “Add a device” > select Bluetooth in the type of device you want to add and wait for the laptop to discover your AirPods.
  5. Click on the Airpods once it comes up to connect to it.
  6. Finally, tap DONE to close the tab

That’s it.

However, if the AirPods have been previously connected to your HP laptop then you don’t need to add a new Bluetooth device.

Simply go to the paired audio devices list and click on connect attached to your AirPods name while making sure the AirPods are not ready to join or aren’t connected to other devices.

You can now proceed to listen to your favorite songs or movies without any sound from your HP laptop speaker.

Why are My Airpods not Connecting to my HP Laptop?

We’ve written a detailed article on how to troubleshoot a failed AirPods connection but we’re going to state some of the possible reasons why AirPods won’t connect to your HP laptop.

1. Airpods not in Pairing Mode

Some AirPods will require you to raise the charging lid to enter pairing mode while others will require you to remove them from the casing before it can connect or be available for pairing.

Do any of the above and watch the AirPods connect to your laptop.

2. Airpods are currently connected to another device.

AirPods don’t allow sound output from multiple devices at a time, so, if your AirPods are in use by another device then it might not connect until you disconnect.

3. Bluetooth not  Enabled

If your laptop’s Bluetooth connection is not turned on then you might not even discover the available AirPods device.

All you need to do is toggle on your Bluetooth connection and try connecting once more.

4. Airpods not selected as an output source

It could be that your AirPods are connected but they are not selected as the output source making all sound still come through your HP speaker.

Simply select your AirPods as the default playback source using the above instructions.

5. Faulty Bluetooth Driver

If your Bluetooth connection is not working probably due to a faulty driver or Windows version then you’ll need to reboot your laptop, install a driver update or reinstall your Windows.

Wrapping UP

You can now switch from your Mac PC to an HP Laptop without fear of not being able to use your Apple AirPods again.

All you need to do is follow the above guide to pair and connect your AirPods to your HP laptop easily.
